Full Head Highlights lighten selected strands throughout your entire head—from nape to crown—creating an all-over brighter, multi-dimensional effect. Unlike partial highlights that focus only on top sections, this comprehensive approach delivers luminous colour and natural movement across every angle, perfect for anyone seeking a complete transformation or refreshed, sun-kissed brightness.

More information

What the Service Involves

Your appointment at Changing Grooms begins with a thorough consultation to discuss your hair history, desired result, and maintenance preferences. Our stylists assess your current colour, skin tone, and hair condition to determine how light we can safely take you and which tones—warm honey, cool ash, or neutral beige—will suit you best.

The highlighting process includes:

  • Sectioning and weaving – Hair is divided and fine or medium strands are selected throughout the head for precise placement
  • Foiling or freehand application – Lightener is applied to chosen strands and isolated in foils to achieve controlled, pronounced lifting
  • Processing and monitoring – Hair is checked regularly until it reaches your target brightness
  • Rinsing and toning – Colour is refined to neutralise brassiness and achieve your chosen shade
  • Conditioning and styling – A nourishing treatment restores moisture before your final cut and blow-dry

The entire service typically takes 2-4 hours depending on your hair length, thickness, and the complexity of your desired look.

Results and Longevity

Full head highlights create an overall lighter appearance while preserving dimension—your natural base colour shows through, giving depth and texture rather than a single flat shade. The result can be subtly sun-kissed or dramatically bright, depending on the number of foils, strand thickness, and contrast between highlight and base colours.

Your highlights will look fresh for approximately 6-8 weeks before regrowth becomes noticeable. Because lightening is applied throughout the entire head rather than just top sections, maintenance is higher than partial techniques—regrowth lines will be visible across your whole head as hair grows. Regular touch-ups help maintain a blended, luminous appearance, and many Weymouth clients schedule standing appointments to stay ahead of their colour.

Aftercare for Lasting Brightness

Protecting your investment means adapting your hair care routine:

  • Wait 48-72 hours before your first wash to allow colour to set
  • Switch to sulphate-free, colour-safe products to minimise fading and dryness
  • Use a weekly deep conditioning mask to maintain elasticity and shine
  • Apply heat protectant before styling and reduce iron/dryer temperature where possible
  • Shield hair from UV, chlorine, and salt water—these accelerate fading and brassiness

Our team at Changing Grooms will recommend specific products suited to your hair type and lifestyle, ensuring your highlights stay vibrant between appointments.

Who Full Head Highlights Suit

This service is ideal if you want comprehensive, all-over brightness and are prepared for the maintenance commitment. It works beautifully on various hair types and can be tailored from natural, soft contrast to bold, high-impact blonding. However, it's worth noting that previous colour history—particularly box dye, henna, or dark tints—can affect how hair lifts and may require multiple sessions to reach very light shades safely.

If your hair is fragile, over-processed, or chemically compromised, our stylists will discuss alternatives or preparatory treatments during your consultation to protect your hair's integrity while achieving beautiful results.

I've been a few times now and am so pleased to have my hair done by Caitlin...she's such a lovely, competent professional. Has done a super job with my highlights twice, I think now, plus my recent trim and blow dry. She doesn't rush which is enjoyable and reassuring. Super head massage, too. I'm already booked on an offer for a special deep cleanse treatment to my scalp. Nikki, who I believe is the owner (?), is also extremely knowledgeable and runs a tight ship with an eye to detail which is no doubt why customers receive such a good service. Don't hesitate to book.

I have had wonderful care and treatment from Nicki and Caitlin this week. Having just had implant surgery and and being unable to hear without my aids, they showed understanding and empathy and ensured that they communicated effectively with me throughout the hours that I was there. From slowly turning me round in chair, to checking they weren’t hurting my implant area, I now have a beautiful head of highlights and will definitely be going back and would give 10/10. Thanks again ladies

Absolutely love my hair—Nicki is amazing. Not only is she a truly talented stylist, but she’s also someone who listens and cares about whatever’s on your mind. I have cognitive issues and sometimes struggle to find the right words, but Nicki always knows exactly what I’m trying to say about my hair. I wouldn’t trust anyone else. Nicki isn’t just my hairdresser—she’s a friend and someone who truly understands what I need, which means the world to me. I would 1000% recommend her. Thank you so much, Nicki. xxxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I started going to Changing Grooms in January after my hairdresser of 20 years retired. I found the salon online and walked in one day—Nicki was so welcoming and offered great advice about my hair, which is very curly and prone to dryness. She quickly identified that plastic from previous products was the issue. Ten months on, I’m still a regular. My hair is now cut, coloured, and occasionally treated to a spa and scalp treatment—all of which have made a real difference. I’d definitely recommend the salon—it’s friendly, relaxing, and brilliant at managing my hair.

I visited Changing Grooms Hair & Spa today to have my hair coloured for the first time ever, and was greeted by Nicki and her incredibly talented team. My appointment was with Caitlin for the Blonde Me Up package, and the whole team went above and beyond to make both me and my partner feel truly welcome and at ease. Caitlin is so skilled at what she does, and I’m absolutely thrilled with the result. I’ll definitely be recommending Changing Grooms to my friends and family. Thank you ever so much—I’m already looking forward to seeing you lovely ladies again soon! 😊

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a full head highlights appointment take?
A full head highlights service typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on your hair length, thickness, and the complexity of your desired result. This includes consultation, application, processing, toning, conditioning, and styling.
What's the difference between full head and partial highlights?
Full head highlights lighten strands throughout your entire head—nape, crown, sides, and face-framing areas—for comprehensive, all-over brightness. Partial highlights focus only on the top and sides, creating a more subtle effect with less maintenance.
How often will I need touch-ups?
Full head highlights typically need refreshing every 6-8 weeks as regrowth becomes noticeable across the entire head. Regular appointments help maintain a blended, luminous look and prevent obvious root lines.
Will highlights damage my hair?
Lighteners open the hair cuticle and can cause dryness if not managed carefully. Our stylists assess your hair's condition and may recommend bond-building or conditioning treatments. Proper aftercare with colour-safe products and regular masks helps maintain hair health.
Can I get full head highlights if I have dark hair?
Yes, full head highlights work beautifully on dark hair, often creating caramel, honey, or toffee tones. How light we can take you depends on your hair's condition and history. Very light shades may require multiple sessions to achieve safely.
What should I do before my appointment?
Come with your hair in its natural state—no need to wash it beforehand. Bring inspiration photos if you have them, and be prepared to discuss your hair history, including any previous colour treatments or chemical services.
How do I maintain my highlights between appointments?
Use sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo and conditioner, apply a weekly deep conditioning mask, always use heat protectant when styling, and shield hair from UV exposure and chlorinated water. Wait 48-72 hours after your service before washing.
What's included in the £90-£100 price?
The price includes consultation, full head lightening application with foils, processing, toning to refine your shade, conditioning treatment, and finishing with a blow-dry and style. Your stylist will confirm exact pricing during your consultation based on hair length and complexity.
Can I go swimming after getting highlights?
Wait at least 48-72 hours before swimming to allow colour to set. When you do swim, rinse hair immediately after exposure to chlorine or salt water, as both can cause fading and brassiness. Consider using a UV-protective spray or wearing a cap.
Will my highlights look natural or bold?
That's entirely your choice. Full head highlights can be tailored from soft, sun-kissed brightness with subtle contrast to dramatic, high-impact blonding. During your consultation, we'll discuss the look you want and show you what's achievable with your hair type and condition.
